BPD often yeilds in us a constant and severe fear of being alone. In my experience, I’ve become severely addicted to people if they give me the notion that they have a desire to be with me. It is at this point where my wanting someone has turned into my needing someone, even though I am convinced that they will eventually leave me. Awaiting the loss of someone I’ve become attached to has been extremely painful, and has essentially destroyed every relationship I’ve ever been in. For anyone out there who experiences similar interpersonal struggles, believe me when I say: Needing someone is NOT pathetic. It does not mean you’re obsessed with the person, but rather consumed by the need to not be alone. When it was brought to my attention that the addiction was less about another person and more about something inside of me, I was immediately relieved. Although in can be nearly impossible to control your own thoughts and emotions, it’s easier than trying to control someone else’s. I hope that you can find comfort in this. Thoughts? Stories?
